Yesterday afternoon my mom called and I yelled, “Happy Nicole’s New Car Day!”
To which she responded with all sorts of congratulations and a comment or two about that being a rather narcissistic way to answer the phone.
Then this morning when I called her with “Happy Day After Nicole’s New Car Day!” she said, “Cute, I get it. But is this the new thing? Really?”
And while it wasn’t going to be the new thing, you know it’s the new thing now. If for no other reason than the hilarious sake of annoying my mother by poking her with a sort of verbal stick.
I’m betting things get pretty amusing by “Happy Three Months, Two Weeks And 4 Days After Nicole’s New Car Day!”
But even by then, I doubt I’ll be any less in love with this car.
It’s the first time I’ve leased a car on my own (my high school car, also a Honda, was a gift from my grandpa, and the Passat I just turned in was only mine for a year, after I took over the last year of someone else’s four year lease).
Oh, and the turning in of the Passat? HELL. Between disposition fees that I was never told about, excessive damage fees that were absolutely outrageous, and different answers from every person at VW that I talked to, it was a raging nightmare. A complete 180 from Honda, fortunately, where everyone was honest and straightforward and helpful.
Bottom line: Honda > VW
See, who said writers aren’t great at math?
So far, my favorite things about Sadie (clearly I’m the type to name my car) are:
- The digital speedometer that’s positioned right in my eye line
- The huge slanted windshield with great visibility
- The incredibly fast and frighteningly cold AC
- And of course, the color. Since the above photo was taken at dusk, you can’t really get the full impact of shiny fabulousity that is Sadie, but don’t despair- I’ll probably be posting pictures of my car the way other people post pictures of their dogs and babies. It can be all “Nicole takes Sadie to the grocery store, Nicole checks on Sadie before she goes to sleep at night, Nicole takes Sadie on impromptu road trips to Canada.”
Oh, and in case you want to print the upcoming photos out and keep track of them, you can comment and enter to win today’s 5 Days of Giveaways prize*: two magnetic photo ropes from Photojojo, an online store full of photo gifts and gear for photographers!
*Prize winners from all 5 days will be announced on Tuesday!

DUDE! I’ve been wanting this foreverrr. This would look awesome in my still makeshift-y studio.
Delurking to let you know that I think you moving domains might have made you funnier… or maybe you were just always this fun and the new domain just got me all stoked.
Either way, I’m adding Nicole’s New Car Day to my Google Calendar. I don’t know why, it just seemed like the thing to do.
I’m pretty psyched that you’re going to be posting every day for a while. I’m loving all your exiting new announcements. At the risk of sounding like a total girl… I really do love the color.
“I’ll probably be posting pictures of my car the way other people post pictures of their dogs and babies”… Ha! Awesome.
Oh, and I think that’s a great way to answer the phone. Much more interesting than the average “Hi” or “Hello”. Totally throws the other person off guard. Haha.
I’m also a huge fan of the current line up of Hondas. I’m look forward to the 2009 Insight because that’s going to be the cheapest hybrid yet.
That being said, I own a VW Jetta and I’m not a big fan of the dealership.
Yay! A new car is awesome. Congrats!
Agh! I’m torn between congratulating you and defending my beloved Volkswagons against this onslaught of slander. Maybe I can do both? YAY CONGRATS NEW CAR YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYPLEASEDON’T TALKABOUTVOLKSWAGONSTHATWAY.
I’m so glad you decided to go with the Honda. They are SO much better than volkswagen.
You wont regret it.
Yay! New car! Yay!
I would do the exact same thing… Oh, no I did do the exact same thing when I got my car. It’s fun to have a new car!
Yay! We have the same car (I think). I LOVE the digital speedometer.
Adorable!
Aw you look like a proud mom! People obsessing over their cars = SO MUCH MORE TOLERABLE than people obsessing over their babies.
I am sooooooooo jealous. I want a new car, but alas, I just paid my car off last year and I don’t want to deal with another car payment. But Hondas? Are so the way to go!
You have such a new energy with this job-quitting-new-car-and-domain-buying thing.
You are seriously bubbling with excitement. It’s adorable.
Oh, dang it. I forgot to also say: I LOVE HONDAS!!
I don’t drive. Driving scares me. But your car looks adorable! I’m sure it’s going to be in pristine condition when it’s time for you to return it, if you love it so much now already!
Wait, I missed the model of the new car. Not that it really matters since I know zilch about cars, other than which ones are cute. So on second thought, no worries, my opinion of your cute car won’t change either way.
We used to own a Passat. I have now been informed that if we ever decide to purchase (or lease) another VW I am supposed to shoot my husband in the head for suggesting such a thing.
Congrats on your new Honda baby!
awwwwwwwwwwh! she’s so cuuuuuuuute! you do nice work, Nicole.
I want a new car! SO jealous
Wait. I’m confused! (But first, congratulations!) Is that a Honda? It looks a little like a Prius! Either way, congrats. I’ve started considering the whole leasing thing lately, since I wonder if we’ll even have cars that are made the same as they are now in say, four years. Jealous. Definitely.
My car got JACKED UP last week and I too bough a new car…. I have not named her though.. Humm I guess I better get on that..
What was the name of your other car you retired?
Yay! That’s super exciting! I can see how your mom might be all, uh oh, is this going to be every day – but play along for a couple days, mom! And I have an old, old Honda, and I still love it. Hondas rodk.
I love new cars! I once had a VW, and it was a piece of crap! I’ll never buy one again–the dealership refused to help even though it as brand new. I’m a Volvo girl now, and have never had a problem!
Yea! Happy New Car MONTH. Screw the day, make it a whole month. Gotta love a Honda!
i’ve been thinking of trading in my mazda, but my current lease isn’t over and I’m not sure how that all works.
Yay! I love me some Hondas – fun, and you just can’t kill ‘em (unless you’re a tractor trailer…RIP first Honda). And I am glad to see I’m not the only one to name their cars, heh. What make is it? I couldn’t tell.
if Sadie is one of the ’08 or ’09 coupes then i completely understand your infatuation. that car is major lust-worthiness.
congrats!
ooooo i’m obsessing over your cars color! so fierce! enjoy the new car smell, cos that is a delicacy
Mmmkay, I changed your link and feed in my reader. That’s how much I love you.
A new car and new blog home…? Very nice.
After all of that, you didn’t tell us what KIND of car it is! Do tell!!
i love that car. i love that car.
i love that car.
my car’s name is simply “Baby,” because when i named it, i was bad at naming objects. i’ve improved at this endeavor (my new GPS is named Beatrice) but I the “Baby” name has stuck for about five years now, and I still love her as much as the day I got her. Also, it reminds me of Dirty Dancing, and nobody puts Baby in a corner.
yeah.
i love your car. happy nicole’s new car day!
yay for new cars. and i think you should take a picture of “nicole takes sadie to visit katelin” that would be sweet, haha.
i swear we will figure out a meetup
I’ve never leased a car, I always just buy them so I know nothing about leases. This one looks awesome though!
Congrats on the new car! Since I’m looking at a new car myself, you know I totally want to adopt the whole “happy new car Vanessa day” line. Gorgeous car, can’t wait to hear all about the adventures in it.
“Nicole takes Sadie on impromptu road trips to Canada.”
mi casa es su casa.
you bring the frankie, i’ll supply the wine.
I Love your gorgeous car. Seriously, you and Sadie look great together! i sooo want a car now. i have a thing for white cars though, i think they look more… sporty.
i so hate it that i live in a totally different country and cant meet up with you. i did go to a “blogers” gathering here in Iran, once, but i havent been invited to any more gatherings!
couldnt we set up an international gathering?
or couldnt you have something like: ” Nicole takes Sadie to the middle east?”
I love the color of your car! Too cute!
i am insanely in love with my honda and its going on 6 years old!
“Happy Nicole’s New Car Day”? Priceless. I got a good chuckle of that one. Love the car color!
Sadie’s so pretty! I hope the two of you have a wonderful time together and that you’re bonding! Yay new Honda!
VW btw is THE DEVIL. Just so you know.
Congrats on the car! That is so exciting. How did you come up with the name Sadie? I’m always worried about naming cars because then I can never name my kids that same thing years later. Which, really, is absurd.
Man, you really make me want to get a car!
Also, send Sadie a kiss from me.
Glad you found your dream girl!
Ahh…I loooove a good Honda. My bro had one forever and that car was the reason I passed my driver’s test.
This photo rope would make… my life!
Someday I’ll be cool like you and lease my own car. For now, it’s a loner from my parents (thank goodness, otherwise IDK what I’d do!)
